Creative, Confident, Courageous

It's a little late to be writing a post about the New Year and my resolutions but why does one have to conform to a date to make improvements? I, as always, have the passion to become a more fulfilled version of myself as well as the happier me. I can express my happiness and content with the environment I currently live in but I want to share the pulchritudes of society with everyone. I want to make a difference. With life's stresses this can be difficult, however making a difference doesn't have to be eradicating poverty. Making a difference in my eyes is the action of converting good intentions to a useable form of positivity everyone can enjoy.
Currently school has been stressful especially due to the bombardment of secondary education to post secondary planning but I have experienced stress before and my outlet is volunteering. The city I live in hosts many events that allow me to give back and de-stress. Many would argue time is the important currency in life and I love sharing my time with children. Being able to experience their creativity and utter delight in completing a simple task pleases me and emulates the way in which I aspire to live everyday. I want to retain the creativity, courage and confidence I had, I have, and will have, everyday of my life!

End of the Year :(

It's hard to think it's now the end of the year and Get Fit will soon be over. I am going to miss all the new friends and experiences I made throughout the year and mostly the improvements I made over my physical fitness.
Get Fit has been so beneficial to my life and I created habits that I will carry as I get older. After using the Nike fitness app., I went home downloaded it and now use it whenever I feel I haven't done quite enough in P.E. When I want a full body exercise or want to do some stretches with Shawn Johnson I log on and I earn my medalions.
This year, even though i have not accomplished all of my goals, I'm getting closer to reaching them everyday. To me that's more important than quitting and giving up. I'll continue to practice my running and work on my cardio and hopefully i'll get to my goal of running for 30 minutes without stopping.

I have gone snowshoeing once before and I've got to say that it's something I wasn't planning on doing again. But trying to be a trooper I decided to go snowshoeing with my get fit class. Expecting to be cold, exhausted and utterly miserable, I started the snowshoeing negatively. Hopeing that 1 hour of snowshoeing would casually turn into 15 minutes I sighed and thought, "Why did Ms. phillips have to tell her we're in get fit! Now she's making us run up mountains of snow!"
We ran and ran and ran around flower lake, me awaiting and wondering if we were very getting a break. Then through the breathing and panting my friends and I began to joke around and it got easier. We finally got a break and before I knew it snowshoeing was over. At the end the guide asked why its important to do outside activities with a friend. I being a resident of surrey replied,"So creeps don't steal you away into the night" This was a good point but the guide replied," Friends can be great motivators and something you don't like can become a hobby if you have friends." That was pure truth as I had just learned that friends make a lot of things easier.

Women In Society

Throughout the past 300 years, women have made great movements towards their equality and civil rights. Before women were viewed not as people, not even considered to be citizens! Now in the 21st century women have their freedoms, and rights, but as women, we now face issues that sexualise or demoralise us.
Last week our entire get fit class watched a documentary that focused on the negativity that we face or have overcome. "Miss Representation" examined women's current position in our society and the roles we play in positions of power and in the media.
One of the biggest issues was media. Pictures of models in their skin tight clothes, or even no clothes at all, flicked across the screen. Before, way back when, it was unacceptable to put anything inappropriate on before 9. Now I could take the remote and change the TV station and be bombarded by women in suggestive situations. Celebrities aren't celebrities for their skills but rather because they made a sex tape. Men in media who sexualize our gender are wrong in doing so. I definitely do not need to see women in suggestive clothing on daytime TV.
Despite this, we can't always blame men. Classmates muttered derogatory terms whenever a picture of a woman in a sexual situation appeared, and it made me think, its not just men who are putting women down, it's us.
As a female teenager in high school I'm subject to this language. I can use it, think it, or be taunted by it. Mostly taunted by other girls, not boys! If we can't accept each other, and restrain from using these terms, how can our generation make movements forward. I'm not taunted, don't use it, but even thinking it is bad enough. I need to make a conscious decision to try not to and I think that's what the documentary was trying to portray. We need to all realize that it's not only men but women that make mistakes in our society.
"Miss Representation" also intended that women understand that one can do what they want with their bodies and that we must be aware of the others' intentions in their actions. Who am I to say someone can't do something with their own body. I would not wish someone to judge my actions if I believe they are right for me, no one knows whats right for you. Act by the golden rule, simple but difficult to live by and watching this inspiring movie prompted me to think of the role I play in society whether it be negative or positive.

GETTING TO KNOW MY CLASSMATES

1. Write about something that you are proud of so far this semester

Get Fit has made me proud of so many things because I can now accomplish more than I could before. My fitness has improved greatly and that has allowed me to finish a community run in 26 minutes!

2.  Write about what you have learned
I have learned about the benefits of vigorous exercise and the impact they have on your emotional and physical health. I also have learned that having a partner who will push you is the best source of support.

3.Write about what your goals are for the end of the course.

At the end of this course I'd like to be able to go for 30 minute runs that aren't on the treadmill.

Field Trips

Recently we went skating at newton arena and it was great! The fact that only ten of us showed up gave us more space to skate. I've got to say that having fieldtrips is awesome. I love getting to do a weekend activity on a weekday but I really hope though that more people would show up. Twice the people twice the fun!

THANKS...

Get Fit is one of the best things I've ever joined. When I switched out of PE 10 and into Get Fit, I was expecting long runs every day acompanied by a soar backside and grinding bones. And I thought to myself, well I don't think I'll really have to try, why would I its just PE. But the truth is, I'm trying and willing to put in the work. Even if I am ending up with armpit muscles that feel as though they will never forgive me, I love knowing I'm doing something beneficial in life.
I am more than ever inspired to do my best in this class, and I have got to give thanks to my BFF DellyBeans (delphine) for pushing me to keep enduring on the dreaded Fitness Days. On a run that would usually take me 35 minutes to complete, we completed it in 25! I never believed that running with a partner could help, but if it shaves of 10 minute from every run, I'm willing to do it! DellyBeans has improved my ability to complete something to the best of my abilities and even if she's not always going to be there on fitness days, I know how to keep going.
Lastly I also want to thank Ms. Phillips for being a great teacher. She's motivating and most of all kind. Someone like that makes you want to try. Previously I've head teachers who made me want to slack off. I really didn't want to get a good grade in their class because in their being miserable made me miserable. Because of Ms.Phillips attitude I know I'll continue to expand on fitness.
As far as the rest of the semester goes, I want to have a healthy body that doesn't get tired from walking home after school. Or even a body that can endure through 8 levels on the beep test. And if I can't I'll keep going and keep on joining get fit because I can and will do anything to be fit! Go Get Fit girls! Keep on Going!
